The Muzyka publishing house marked the 300th anniversary of J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos by issuing them in an arrangement for piano duet by American pianist and teacher Eleanor Bindman.
The works are classic examples of the concerto grosso genre and today rate among the most popular orchestral works by the great composer. In Bindman’s own words, “Despite the popularity and beauty of the music, 4-hand performances of the Brandenburg Concertos are extremely rare due to the inadequacy of older existing arrangements. The richness of Bach’s instrumentation and polyphony make piano reductions of this orchestral cycle an especially daunting task. My project had two main goals: to ensure correct reproduction of the score and equal partnership between the pianists. I am confident that pianists, piano teachers and their students can find a wealth of material here and will enjoy many hours of delightful duet playing”. Bindman’s transcriptions of J.S. Bach’s Cello Suites. Recordings of her performing these transcriptions were nominated for the Grammy Best Classical Instrumental Solo in 2021.
